The Nike Center for Athletic Performance in Boulder, CO, reflects the existing culture and reputation of a city on the forefront of research, athletic training, and accessible mountain activities. Acting as a catalyst for healthy living, education, and culture, the facility enhances and promotes the Nike mission statement: “To bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world.”

The concept calls for a perimeter block building in order to contain a small field for sporting events. The masses of the structure separate the program into public spaces, such as the Nike store, gallery, and auditorium, and a private gym for those in training. The connecting arms of the structure house the individual rooms for athletes and trainers.

The design places athletes and fitness at the heart of the structure, in the Micro-Stadium. While the program called for independent resources for the public, trainers, and athletes, the Micro-Stadium offers an open program for the three demographics to interact and learn from one-another. The athletic field functions as a catalyst for public gatherings, training clinics, award ceremonies, and other Nike sponsored events.
